Troubleshoot Fan Noise
Purpose
This procedure provides guidance about how to troubleshoot the fan noise issue.
Procedure
Fan noise may occur if the DVR/NVR is rebooting or if there is a loud noise coming from the DVR/NVR. There are multiple troubleshooting steps/questions that can be done to diagnose and determine fan issues with the objective to resolve the issue. These are:
1. Turn the recorder off.
2. Open the cover of the recorder.

Check if there is anything that is obstructing the fan |
If a wire is touching the fan, move it away from the fan. Remove any other obstructions. There could be dust build up and the system may have to be vacuumed. |
Check if the fan is plugged in. |
If not, plug in the fan and power on the system and see if the fan spins |
If the fan still not spinning |
If it doesn’t then make sure the system is powered on and properly powered via the correct power adapter (amperage/voltage). If the fan isn’t spinning try to manually spin it and see if it works, then. If not RMA it provided it is under warranty otherwise it would be an out of warranty replacement at the discretion of customer service.
|
If the system still rebooting with the cover off |
Perform Watchdog troubleshooting (as that could be the cause and not necessarily the fan). If the cover isn’t off, try taking the cover off and see if the fan is spinning and if the system is still rebooting with the cover off. If not RMA it provided it is under warranty otherwise it would be an out of warranty replacement at the discretion of customer service. |
Where the system is installed |
If the system is installed in a quiet room advise the customer that it will be audible as it is a low diameter fan that needs to spin to high rpm’s to cool the system properly |
Is it an LHV2000 series (non FS3 model) that is experiencing rebooting |
Perform Watchdog troubleshooting (as that could be the cause and not necessarily the fan). If it continues to reboot RMA it provided it is under warranty otherwise it would be an out of warranty replacement at the discretion of customer service. FS3 is recommended as a replacement (LHV2000-FS3 series) as it doesn’t have a fan on the PCB (only side-fan) |
Is it an older LHV series with a fan issue |
Perform Watchdog troubleshooting (as that could be the cause and not necessarily the fan). If it continues to reboot RMA it provided it is under warranty otherwise it would be an out of warranty replacement at the discretion of customer service. FS3 is recommended as a replacement (LHV2000-FS3 series) as it doesn’t have a fan on the PCB (only side-fan) |
To see if the system has a fan at all |
If the system doesn’t have a fan the noise could be coming from something else in the DVR/NVR. Could be from a hard drive which is possibly failing. If the hard drive is failing reboot RMA the system provided it is under warranty otherwise it would be an out of warranty replacement at the discretion of customer service. |
