What is ONVIF?

ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is a global and open industry forum with the goal to facilitate the development and use of a global open standard for the interface of physical IP-based security products. Or in other words, to create a standard for how IP products within video surveillance and other physical security areas can communicate with each other. Dahua NVRs, HCVRs (hybrid NVR), and IP Cameras are ONVIF compliant, and are able to hook up to any ONVIF compliant devices. The ONVIF Specifications cover: IP configuration, device discovery, device management, PTZ camera control, and video analytics. For more information from the main website please visit ONVIF's Web Site

Working in parallel are ONVIF Profiles:

  • Profile C: IP-based access control, Site info & configuration, Event & alarm management and Door access control.
  • Profile S: IP-based video systems, Video & audio streaming, Pan-tilt-zoom control & relay output and Video configuration & multicast.
  • Profile G: Edge storage and retrieval, Configuration, request and control recording from compliant devices, and receive audio and metadata stream.

5. For older systems or firmware the ONVIF credentials are setup at the first login, which suggests updating the password. The password entered here will remain the password for ONVIF until the device has a factory reset (or hard reset) and the prompt then appears again.
