The ConfigTool is a very useful piece of software that allows users and installers the ability to verify which devices are on the same network as their computer and make modifications as necessary. It simplifies the setup and maintenance processes by putting the options for modifying IP Addresses, upgrading firmware, initializing cameras, changing date & time, and modifying passwords all in one location. Additionally, the ability to batch initialize, batch modify IP addresses, and batch upgrade firmware streamlines setup and maintenance. It does have a few issues every once in while, but overall it makes interacting with Dahua devices a lot easier during setup and when troubleshooting issues. I'd say my only complaint is that the Username and Password settings, that are required to do any modifications to devices, are hidden in an un-intuitive location (the Search Setting section). I would suggest putting that in a location that is more obvious for users.

Thoughts on ConfigTool

Goal

Point of this article is to get feedback about their experience using ConfigTool.

Arran

The functionality of the Config tool is a very powerful utility that can assist in finding and fixing a vast array of network issues that you may run into while troubleshooting Dahua Equipment. It can assist in finding the IP Address of a new device as well as activate a device you may be having trouble activating elsewhere. While being extremely powerful it also has its limitations, Sometimes it is unable to find the device you are troubleshooting. Sometimes it fails to modify The IP address and the error will not appear in a clearly visible location. Also It would be convenient to list off the ports of all devices that are found on the network Right from the same main working location in case you are unable to modify through config tool and need to use your web browser. While the tool can be improved upon it is still a crucial tool for anyone working with Dahua Network Equipment and is extremely useful.
